Fishing: Freshwater & Saltwater Fishing ~ We're Hooked!

50 lb Conroe Blue Catfish

50 lb Conroe Blue Catfish

Shooting the B U L L on the dock of the bay... so to speak, along with a few tips on reels that will help you bring em in the boat.

Freshwater fishing… You're gonna want to get the right gear or you don't stand a chance of bringing home the fish. A good reel is as important as the rod, line, lure and/or bait, depending on what you are fishing for.

Freshwater reels should be suited to the fish you seek and the bait or lures you use. The names are self explanatory and so get either a Baitcasting, Casting, Spincasting or Spinning reel in the brand of Shimano, Abu Garcia, Quantum, Daiwa, or Shakespear Lines.

Anyway, we went to Conroe Sat night with James. We got plenty of shad for bait but not very many fish. We ended up with 2 cats, 1 hybrid, and a white bass. That means fish briskets for me and the guys at work. I cooked a couple of briskets this weekend for Mike and BG, too.

Preston and I went to Somerville to chase some whites and cats. We fished near Welch park and only came up with one catfish. We even tried under some birds for cats and came up empty. The whites must have been on the other end of the lake cause I didn't see anyone catching where we were at. btw it was WINDY AS HELL!

Mike and I went to Conroe on Sat but the lack of bait (we had baitcasting reels) and high winds had us go in early. I hadn't run my boat in a while so just getting it back on the water and running good made the trip worth it.

I drove out to the lake last weekend just to check out the water level and in some spots it was well below the bulkheads.

BulkHead fishing this Sunday!!! I was planning on going fishing sometime this weekend but it looks like we are getting another cold front coming in with some high winds.  That means pizza instead of fish. I just learned how to make my own pies. Surprisingly I like them better than going out for pizza. Made this one last night - Bellville meat market sausage, mushrooms, onion, and jalepeno.

Heading out to fish the big lakes. Bet I can fish better than you. Are you free next weekend? If you don't got the right gear, you don't got the fish filling up your boat. We brought home a 50 lb Conroe Blue Catfish. Our best prize this season so far. You see.... I can fish better than you!

OK. We will give a little tip. Used a DAIWA Saltist Levelwind Reels... that's a conventional reel in case you don't know, but can go either fresh or saltwater. Can help you bring 'em in the boat! It did for us.

The bait? Not telling. That for us to know and you all to try as you will to figur out.
